Occupational Health and Safety Systems

Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) are implemented in organizations in order to identify, monitor and measure the health and safety aspects of processes.

Organizations who have implemented an OHSMS have seen decreased safety/health issues.

You can implement a compliant OHSMS — either by registering externally to the international standard OHSAS 18001; or by implementing a system that meets the requirements but is self-declaring.

No matter which option you choose, McDonald Consulting Group can help you implement the system that works for you.

Benefits

OHSAS 18001 enables a structured, recognized framework for the management of health and safety risks.

OHS 18001 guides organizations in developing a health and safety management system to ensure that their employees and others are limited in their exposure to potential health and safety risks within their regular activities. Reduction of risks leads to reductions in accidents, which can potentially save the organization the costs associated due to health and safety mishaps.

Having a OHS management system (OHSMS) in place provides the company with confidence that they are in conformance with governmental health and safety policies.

An OHSMS shows commitment and awareness of health and safety issues and potential issues to third parties and demonstrates responsibility, and provides a framework to address all future health and safety concerns, while ensuring that there is a defined methodology in place to address each potential risk before the problem occurs.

In the long term a OHSMS allows a company to continually improve their occupational health and safety program in an organized and logical manner.

ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 Compatibility

Compatibility with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

The OHSMS Risk_Management_Elements standard was designed with other management systems in mind. This makes implementation smooth throughout the organization, as there are some areas that will look very familiar to 9001 and 14001 folks. Other areas are OHS specific, and will need to receive additional focus in order to ensure a seamless implementation.

Hiring a consultant with experience in integrating these systems will save you time, money, and headaches.

If you do not have any management systems in place and you are considering your options, contact McDonald Consulting Group to help. We will help you evaluate your needs, and come up with the most cost-effective solution for your organization.
